Thank you to the CEI crews who attended today’s Safety meeting. The presentation given today by Joe Fulton, Safety Director at CEI, focused on over all crane safety, the new crane standards and certifying employees for rigging and signaling. MIOSHA establishes and supplies much of the regular monthly safety information that CEI presents to the crew employees. “It was a good class with good discussion and participation.” says Fulton. Great Job, everyone and Be safe out there!

Where to look: Protection from the Top: The Importance of Commercial Roof Cover Maintenance and Repair
The roof is a commercial building’s first line of defense from natural hazards
such as wind, rain, fire, hail, ice, snow, and extreme heat. It is also the most
vulnerable part of your building. Every day, your roof is exposed to weather and
other elements that may contribute to decay and deterioration, increasing the
risk of damage to the roof itself and the contents below it. click

- Snow Guards: Snow guards are rooftop devices that allow snow and ice to drop off in small amounts or melt completely before falling to the ground.
- Heat Tape: Installing heat tape on a roof is a tool to prevent ice and snow from building up on the roof impeding drainage through the gutter system and causing leaks in the roofing materials.
- Snow Fence:The intent of roof snow fences is to hold snow on the roof, preventing snow from sliding off and causing damage or injury.
REMOVING ICE DAMS
IBHS does not recommend chipping or breaking ice dams due to the damage that can be inflicted on the roof. If you are not physically capable of going onto the roof or are unable to easily reach the roof, consult a roofing professional.
For low slope roofs or flat roofs:
- Removing the snow will remove the source of a potential ice dam.
- Use a heavy duty push broom with stiff bristles to brush off the snow on low slope or flat roofs.
- A shovel or snow blower should not be used since they may tear up the roof cover system.
For steep slope roofs:
- Removing the snow will remove the source of a potential ice dam.
- A roof rake may be used for most single story buildings while remaining on the ground to pull snow down the roof slope.
- Do not pull snow back against the slope or sideways since the snow may get underneath the cover and can break shingles.
Crazy weather can cause crazy damage. This is not from the recent storms but it show that even without hurricane force winds a roof that is not maintained or installed well can have disastrous effects.Roof Blows off, Definitely not a CEI installed Roof.

CEI Michigan, LLC. Howell, was one of the first companies to brave the single-ply roofing market in the 80’s. Today, the roofing company is maintaining its competitive and technological edge with the development of a growing list of vegetated and green roofing projects. “We have always tried to stay ahead of the curve on new technology, ” said G. Robert Cook, vice president of sales/estimating. “We view vegetated and green roofs as being in that category. We always try to do something out of the ordinary.”
CEI has been patiently cultivating projects in the green marketplace. The company has completed a healthy list of environmentally friendly rooftops, including a 16,500-sqaure-foot vegetated roof for the recently constructed…

For a facility, green roofing can increase the longevity of the roof membrane along with lowering energy costs. One of the nicest benefits is the value it can add with amenity and aesthetics. It is not only the facility that benefits from green sustainable roofing. Green roofing also contributes to the surrounding area in ways such as storm water management, reducing the urban heat island effect, and the attraction of insects and birds which can create a balance in the ecosystems of urban areas.
